Trains, buses and ferries with a bike

Last verified: 2026-07-16

The short version

  • KTX high-speed trains: full-size bikes are generally NOT allowed — folding bikes in a bag are.
  • Intercity/express buses: the standard answer. Bikes go in the luggage bay; buy a normal ticket. Terminals line the whole route, so you can also bail out mid-ride.
  • Busan→Fukuoka ferry: popular way to combine Korea with Japan; many riders start in Busan for this reason.
  • Some slower Mugunghwa/ITX trains have limited bike space on weekends — rules change, check locally.

Back from Busan

Most riders bus back to Seoul (about 4.5 hours). Arrive at the terminal early, take the front wheel off if the bay is crowded, and expect zero English — pointing and smiling works.
