Sep–Nov: the consensus best window — dry, cool, autumn colors. Book Chuseok holiday dates carefully.
Apr–May: second best; cherry blossoms in early April, warm by May.
Jun–Aug: hot (35°C+), humid, and the jangma monsoon front brings multi-day rain. Doable with dawn starts; not fun.
Dec–Feb: -10°C mornings inland; paths stay open but booths freeze and daylight is short.
